This Government of Fine Gael and Labour was elected on a platform of reform and change for the better. Public sector and political reform is a major part of the Government's focus. We support the objective of the PeopleTalk Project, which is to improve the democratic relationship between State services and citizens. There is currently a process underway of reforming the public sector and, in particular, local authorities. It is our hope that the PeopleTalk Project would work with local authorities and the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government throughout this transformation process.

Statement of Gerry Adams TD, Sinn Féin President.
Sinn Féin believes in a public service in which decision-making is citizen centred and where one-size-fits-all ‘solutions’ are a thing of the past. We support the objective of the PeopleTalk Project, which is to improve the democratic relationship between State services and citizens. Sinn Féin believes in a society that is truly inclusive, and is based on equality and citizens’ rights. In this context the PeopleTalk process provides an opportunity for elected politicians and public servants alike to get a clear insight into how government agencies interact with citizens.
